Description The full story Lady Elara – Head of Studies A middle daughter to noble mages who once served powerful lords across the kingdom of Draksborne. Elara grew up constantly on the road, living in the lavish halls of her parent’s employers until their tenure was done, and they would find work in another noble’s home. Some halls she loved, but many she resented; treated by servants as a nuisance to oversee, ignored by her parents and stuck between her rueful siblings. It was a life that—when her parents finally settled—she could look back on and plainly say she despised. She was on the cusp of womanhood when her parents found roots in Canos, each as one of many court mages to the Duke and his noble retinue, though the work was steady and guaranteed them cozy jobs at the University after. To say that Lady Elara only holds her position to nepotism, however, would be false. Her own aptitude for the arcane showed promise from a young age, and she received much tutelage from her parents even as a child. By the time she was of schooling age, she had already mastered spells that most students do not learn until their third year of schooling. When she completed her studies, she rejected her parents’ notion to travel afar, serving lords and ladies across the continent. She had travelled enough, and was quite happy remaining in Canos, as a member of the staff in the University. Even when Dragonblight gripped the city, and stole her parents and eldest brother from her, she did not regret her decision. Though her youngest sister now lives far away in Belfrie and she is left alone in Canos, with only her adopted stray cat Blinx to keep her company. Now she has recently taken on the role of Head of Studies, dictating the curriculum that will be studied by the students present. The end goal for many mages in the university is to follow paths similar to her parents, for finding employment as a court mage is one of the highest paying careers for those in the arcane, yet Elara detests this notion. She has thus altered the curriculum to instead clandestinely prod students to be leaders in court, rather than followers, and begin holding influence over their lieges, rather than be at their beck and call. It is her hope that this way, the petty wars of kings might be waved away by the pull of their court mages, and a tenuous peace can be held.
